Mapuche Ancestral Food
We will pick you up at your accommodation at 10 am in a modern van with driver and food-loving tour guide. Then it’s off to the market district for a short walking tour (can be adjusted based on customer needs) to explore the colors, scents, and flavors of the Chilean market scene. Your guide will share some cultural stories with you along the way and you’ll stop for a traditional Chilean drink/snack – just enough to keep you going without ruining your meal!
Then, visit the Original Peoples’ Ceremonial Center where you’ll take a guided visit to immerse yourself in the rich spiritual heritage of the native people and understand the purpose of this special facility.
Head to the hillside “ruka”, a traditional Mapuche structure, to embark on an exciting experience with a hands-on gastronomy class guided by Mapuche women from the south of Chile. Discover, learn, and experience the rich culinary heritage of one of the most influential indigenous cultures of Chile through engaging demonstrations of native ingredients and ancestral techniques. Actively participate in crafting traditional dishes in a workshop that not only delights your palate but also preserves and celebrates the art, flavors, and traditions of Mapuche cuisine.
Even though you may not find the same unique ingredients, the dishes you’ll prepare are easy to replicate at home and perfect for sharing with friends and family. After all, nothing is better following a trip than organizing a social gathering to share the foods, flavors and stories acquired during your visit to a new country. Dishes may change seasonally and can be modified to cater to any dietary restrictions. Just let us know.
