A perfect way to start your journey and get to know Santiago. First, we’ll pick you up at your hotel in a modern van with professional driver and we head for the historical downtown of Santiago.

We start in Plaza de Armas, where you’ll hear a little about the founding of Santiago and make a “quick” visit to a Santiago institution with over 80 years of history where you’ll try one of Chile’s favorite foods.

Walk through the city center and pedestrian walkways including Paseo Bandera, home to a colorful array of street sculptures winding between government buildings and Chile’s financial center. Visit another institution with over 60 years in Santiago, where you’ll taste the specialty of their house along with a typical Chilean drink.  Pass by La Moneda Presidential Palace and Cultural Center, and wander through the historical financial district, to finish your downtown exploration in a historical restaurant where you’ll enjoy some typical dishes accompanied by a Chilean beer.

You’ll return to the van for a drive along Parque Forestal, a popular park that fills the southern banks of the Mapocho River, and past Plaza Baquedano, the central point for protests and celebrations alike.  You’ll notice the changes as you drive towards the more modern and upmarket neighborhoods of Santiago, where you’ll stop at a gourmet ice cream store for Chile’s favorite dessert.

Finish your tour in an upmarket wine store/restaurant with a glass of Chile’s signature grape and hear the story of the re-discovery of Carménère.

A tour full of tastes and insights into Santiago and its contrasts, experiencing the differences that exist in the city and in Chilean society.

Departure

Hotel pick up at 10:00 am. The tour lasts 5-6 hours approx. Available Monday to Friday, all year except for: New Year’s Day, Christmas Day, September 18 and 19.

• The downtown is generally safe but, like any city, there can be pickpockets and petty thieves. Avoid wearing or bringing high value items like jewelry or watches.
